STEAM Work Makes the Dream Work

As part of a youth-led IB team, I worked on a project to bring fun, hands-on STEAM learning to students in Jamaica. With support from a $2,500 IB Global Youth Action Fund grant, we created a science explorium and led workshops that mixed creativity and science, like solar car races, sustainability-themed art, and even ballet-based physics lessons.

We partnered with schools like Sandy Bank, Pedro Plains, Waldensia Primary, and the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Early Childhood Institution. One of my favorite parts was co-leading a workshop called STEAM in Motion, where we used dance to teach about anatomy and how energy moves through the body.

With help from amazing teachers and mentors, we worked to make STEAM feel exciting, inclusive, and meaningful, especially for young students who might not always see themselves in science.
